What is the PI Cognitive Assessment?

The PI Cognitive Assessment (formerly PLI) is a timed pre-employment test that measures general cognitive ability. It's one of the most widely used hiring assessments in the world - over 5.7 million people completed PI assessments in 2024 alone.

The test has 50 questions across three categories - verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, and abstract (pattern) reasoning. You have exactly 12 minutes. Most candidates don't finish. That's by design.

Your score directly influences whether you move forward in the hiring process. Many companies set minimum score thresholds by role.

Why preparation matters

The average score is roughly 20 out of 50. Competitive candidates score 28+. The difference isn't raw intelligence - it's familiarity with the question types and comfort with the time pressure.

Research shows that practice on cognitive assessments improves scores by 10-20%. Not because you memorize answers, but because you learn to recognize patterns faster, manage your time, and skip strategically.
