Two changes to the free sample test

We shipped two upgrades to the free sample test this month, and together they change what you get out of it. The short version: the sample is back up to 15 questions, and your results now show you exactly where you stand compared to everyone else who takes the PI Cognitive Assessment.

From 6 questions back to 15

Earlier this year we trimmed the sample down to 6 questions to make it faster to try. It was faster, but it was also too thin to mean anything. Six questions cannot tell you whether you are ready for a 50-question test.

So the sample is back to 15 questions - 5 verbal, 5 numerical, 5 abstract - in 3.5 minutes. That keeps the same ~14 seconds per question pace as the real test, and it covers every category with enough depth that your score actually says something about where you are today.

Your results now show where you stand

This is the bigger change. When you finish the sample, you no longer just get a score. You get your score plotted against the population baseline:

• The average candidate scores around 20 out of 50
• Competitive candidates score 28 or higher
• Exceptional candidates score 37 or higher - roughly the top 5%

Your result lands on the distribution curve so you can see, at a glance, whether you are below average, average, good, competitive, or exceptional. You also get a callout for your weakest category, so you know exactly what to practice first.

Even the free sample tells you something real

Here is why this matters. Most people walk into the PI Cognitive Assessment with no idea where they stand. They find out on test day, in front of an employer, when it counts.
